Campaign for Real Ale

October 2013 - Haconby & Morton

Eight of us set off on a short walk across fields, both ploughed and grassy to Morton. The weather was pleasant for the time of year and it seemed that we wouldn't need the waterproofs we wore or carried.

Instructions for the sundial at Morton Sundial at Morton

There are 2 pubs in Morton and first stop was the Lord Nelson. As we had arrived before 12 o'clock Ivan checked the time by the millennium sun dial to see how long it was until opening time (see picture above). There were 2 beers for us to try here and coffee for the ladies.

Leaving there we walked the length of the main street to the second pub, The Five Bells, where we sat outside to enjoy the sunshine and drank the one beer on offer.

Five Bells, Morton Hare & Hounds, Haconby

It was an even shorter walk back across more ploughed fields to The Hare and Hounds in Haconby where we drank Marston's EPA and Knight Porter. We were all ready for a lovely roast lunch. The landlord was very welcoming and a good time was had by all.
