Outside the Bull

On the 15th June at Market Deeping, the Landlord of The Bull, Bert Murray, was presented with a certificate marking the Inaugural Meeting of the Fenland Branch of CAMRA on the 21st June 1974.

Members of the Peterborough Branch (which was formed in October that year) turned up in large numbers and the landlord was overwhelmed with serving beer before he was free to receive his award.

Graeme Neish from Boston was the only member who was at the original meeting so he became a celebrity for the afternoon. Photos were taken in the "Dugout" bar, down below in The Bull where the first meeting was held.

Chairman of Fenland, Nigel Woodburn, gave a potted history of of the branch and the Chairman of the Peterborough branch, David Murray, did the same. They then presented the landlord with certificates marking the 40th Anniversary.

The beers on offer were Everards Tiger & Original and Batemans Black & White. In 1974, the Good Beer Guide shows the Bull serving Ruddles beers, two bitters and a mild.
