Campaign for Real Ale

February 2012 - Fosdyke

Ready for the off Tish, Ena and Nigel review the old press cuttings Fenland's Sunday socials are attracting members from far and wide these days. So much so that Ian walked 8 miles from Spalding along the River Welland sea bank to join the trekkers at Fosdyke Bridge for, yes you've guessed it - a walk along the sea bank.

Jim & Judy gave out information sheets on Moulton Marsh Nature Reserve before leading off the sweet sixteen along the snow covered bank past small lagoons and hedgerows. At the Reserve, the majority carried on along the banks eventually passing what was the Hare and Hounds, now a domestic property. The minority meandered back, looping round the Reserve, and rejoining the sea bank.

Back at the Ship a warm fire and welcome awaited, along with XB and Adnams Bitter, both on excellent form. Before the carvery and veggie delights were dispensed, members took great delight in reading press cuttings and photos of Fenland forays from the past 30 odd years that Tish had brought along.

Thanks to Jim & Judy & co. for organising this enjoyable walk.
