Campaign for Real Ale

November 2011 - Horncastle Campaigning Trip

Horncastle Squash Club Red Lion, Revesby A small contingent of Fenland branch took a coach trip to Horncastle in November where the first port of call was the Horncastle Squash Club.

A warm welcome awaited from Tim, who wasted no time in serving excellent pints of 3 Tuns 1642 all the way from Bishops Castle, and Rudgate Foes Fear 4%. The Squash Club has served over 50 beers over the past few months and held a beer festival in town with 18 beers, many of them from Lincolnshire breweries.

A short walk to town and the first stop being the Red Lion, a good excuse to call being to drop off their GBG stickers, another to sample the inexpensive Barnsley Bitter and the Oakwell Senior. Served as usual in good condition but a trifle colder than most real ale aficionados care for.

Next stop was the low beamed Thatch (King William) where XB and XXXB were dispensed.

Across the road then to the Bull Hotel, now a Marston house, where Ringwood Bitter, Pedigree and er Dogs Bollocks from Wychwood (the latter tasting far better than its name implies).

Time then to return to the coach and home but not before a stop off on the way at the Red Lion at Reveseby for XB, XXXB, and Victory.

Thanks to Tim for providing such an excellent welcome, also to Heather for arranging the coach trip.
