Campaign for Real Ale

September/October 2011 - 8 Sail "Threshing Weekend"

Tony Pygott ready for the crowds First customers arrive

The Threshing Weekend Beer Festival at 8 Sail Brewery was blessed with hot Indian summer weather, an excellent range of beers in good condition, and plenty to keep the visitors occupied with the Mill, Tea Rooms and of course the threshing and steam engines.

12 beers were on offer with 6 from 8 Sail itself; Millwright Mild, Thresher (Festival Special), Flour Power, Harvest IPA, Golden Ale, and Damson Porter. Sleaford Brewery supplied Midnight Runner and 6066, and from Oldershaw's Grantham Stout, from Tom Wood Harvest, Darktribe provided Urchin's Rest, and from Leila Cottage was Lincolnshire Life.

Tony had selected plenty of dark beers for the autumnal season and was a little apprehensive that the hot sunny weather might cause drinkers to select just the paler beers. However it was soon evident that plenty of the milds and stouts were being requested and dispensed as well as the golden ales.

On Saturday morning, Tony escaped to man his stall at Sleaford Farmers Market, only to be accosted by Matt Baker and the BBC Countryfile team (see photo below).

All in all an excellent week-end.
