June 2025 - Lincoln Pubs Saturday 28th June
On a hot sunny day, a group of 15 met up at the Treaty of Commerce on Lincoln High Street to sample the delights of some of the local venues. Thanks to the good offices of Stuart Bateman, we were all treated to a pint on the house. A good range of Bateman’s beers together with guest beers.
Our next port of call was the Tiny Tavern, a micropub opened a few years ago. Amongst the six beers on offer were Crafty Brewing - Crafty One and Trig – Interloper, the later a strong porter. Then over the road to the Imp and Angel. It was the first micropub in Lincoln, but shut during Covid, and has now reopened under the new name. Three ales on offer including Jolly Sailor - Selby Bitter. Here we met Tony Laverick, a former Fenland member, returning from a beer festival at the Golden Eagle.
Rather than go to the festival, we headed back up the high street, calling in at the Ritz. As well as the usual range, they had Beermats - Matte Black, Welbeck Abbey - Vanilla Stout and Bays - Devon Dumpling. Some of the group made use of the food menu, and a part group photograph opportunity.
Continuing up to the Stonebow, and turning right to visit the Still, a Marston’s pub with a historic interior. Marston’s Pedigree was selected here.
For some of us, the Cardinal’s Hat was the final pub visited. A good range of beers including Only With Love - The O.G., Titanic - Cappuccino Stout and Ossett - White Rat. One brave soul decided that despite the heat, no trip to Lincoln would be complete without a visit to the Strugglers. The rest felt that a trip up Steep Hill would result in the pub living up to its name.
A great day out, with a good turnout from members.
