Campaign for Real Ale

December 2014 - Spalding

Priors Oven

Just 9 staunch trekkers met up at Spalding for the walk led by Heather. The small band showed no visible signs of the previous night's riotous Christmas bash at the Solo club where the casks had been drunk dry. Our walk took us through town and then on to the disused railway and eventually round to Pinchbeck; Heather wisely avoiding any ploughed fields, muddy paths and swamps.

Timed to perfection the group arrived just after opening time at the Prior's Oven. Pausing only momentarily for the required group photos outside the pub. Access was then gained and beer ordered. The gravity fed beers included Apollo Honey from Star Brewery, Dark Ale from Pheasantry, Baz's Bonce Blower (off the scale ABV%) from Parish, Holly Daze, Oldershaw, Ericoe Roe (a bit chilly for even her), Grainstore, and North Rock from Milestone.

One or two popped into the Red Lion - for Bass it is thought, before we all met up at the Ivy Wall where Heather had very thoughtfully booked a table, complete with crackers etc. Meals were ordered - quality, value for money, and service was excellent- and as Fen folk caught up with Wendy's news beer was consumed, which comprised Maid Marion, Springhead; Holly Bush, Salopian; and Christmas Steps from Butcombe. An excellent day all round and thanks again to Heather.
