November 2025 - Grantham Pubs

Seven magnificent men met up at the Whistle Stop on Grantham Station as their starting point of real ale exploration of the best that Grantham pubs had on offer. Pints of Whistle Stop Blonde and Alchemy from Zest along with Onomatobeer (4.8%) from Beer Mats brewery were eagerly downed while John produced his proposed pub itinerary. The list was quickly added to from the members.

A longish walk eventually found the Lord Harrowby where excellent pints of Caravan Bitter, Chin Chin Jive Juice and Atom Desert Stout Layer Theory (5.5%) all with Camra discount, were sampled along with welcome seating.

On then to the Tollemache Inn using vouchers for Brinks Mat Golden Nectar, Welbeck Abbey White Stag, Stonehenge Danish Dynamite (5%) and Brewsters Decadence were downed - along with food for some.

The next port of call was the Beehive with its Timothy Taylor's Landlord and then the Blue Pig with Moorhouses Blonde Witch, Bradfield Farmers Belgian Blue, and St Austell Proper Job - another excellent range of ales.

No time to waste so on then to the Nobody Inn where the seven were fortunate to find seating in this packed pub. Here Harvest Pale, Grainstore First & Last, XXXB, and Robin Hood Copper Ale from Nottingham Brewery were supped.

Some of the clan then made for the train whilst the rest moved on towards the Black Dog, a Marstons establishment. However a very noisy, packed pub, made a change of plan, and the Chequers, a GBG pub, was chosen instead. A good choice, with three beers on Blue Monkey BG Sips, Zest Heavenly Blonde, 8 Sail Old Colony and we were also treated to a buffet at the pub.

Thanks to John for arranging the trip and a grand wobbly time was had by all.
