Fenland

January 2026 - Nottingham

Fen folk took to the tracks for their trip to Nottingham.

Alighting at the station the first port of call was across the road to the Castle Rock Brewery Tap, the Vat and Fiddle, Nottingham's Locale pub of the year. A bank of 14 hand pumps greeted the visitors along with a group of brewery tourists practising pulling pints. After settling down with pints John disclosed his itinerary for the day.

Before reaching our second pub on the list we couldn't resist the lure of the Canal House to sample further local ales.

On then to the Royal Children where Landlord (barrel changed) and Pedigree were on offer.

On then to the Salutation where another grand range of ales were sampled - CAMRA discount included.

A meandering wander to the Market Place eventually resulted in finding the Roebuck, Spoons, where meals were taken as well as various ales. Across the street found the Malt Cross, an old theatre complete with its balconies and excellent range of light and dark ales - again Camra discount.

It was then time to wend a way back to the train station, but not before some called into the Brew Tavern by the station for more beer. Another excellent, and even sunny, day out thanks to John.
