March 2026 - Pub Surveys of Spalding

A few stalwart members took the train to Spalding to carry out surveys to update details of as many pubs as possible. The starting point was the Red Lion where pints of Bass and St. Austell Cornish Ale were supped whilst planning the itinerary.

Clay Hall Hotel, Spalding The Moorings, Spalding

First up was a walk across the river to examine the building maintenance of the Sam Smiths White Horse, then on along the riverside to check out the Clay Hall Hotel (no cask ale) before arriving at the Moorings for Timothy Taylor Landlord and London Pride.

Surveyors at the Moorings Rye River Brewing Co. Brogue Irish Red Ale.

Survey completed then a walk back into town to the Ivy Wall for eats and Rye River Brewing Co. Brogue Irish Red Ale.

Spalding Constitutional Club

The next survey was at the Spalding Constitutional Club, a most impressive building. This members only club does allow guests to to be signed in by a member and holds regular live music events in its large garden. Timothy Taylor Landlord is on handpump. A mini beer festival is planned for 24th / 25th May - non members welcome.

A check on the Punch Bowl and Bentleys, neither with cask ale, then to Lincolnshire's first micro pub, the Prior's Oven where 3 ales were on gravity including Oaks (3.6%) from Barsham, Norfolk. Also on offer were Black Pig (4.2%) and Uranus (4.4%).

Across the road to the Pied Calf for Greene King IPA, and then back to the Prior’s Oven where the beer range had changed with Three Brothers, Bitter-Ex available.

Finally a look through the window of the Mulberry's Bar @ The Chequers confirmed this more night-scene orientated venue has no cask ale.
