Campaign for Real Ale

February 2019 - Freiston

Bull & Dog, FreistonOn a very wet and blustery morning a team of XV set off from the Bull and Dog, Freiston after photos were taken at all angles of the team and the pub. A few Fen folk decided to take the alternative trip to the local garden centre leaving the XV to trudge on, led by Ivan.

Several minor roads, paths and the occasional muddy tracks were taken and the busy A52 carefully traversed. A path through a small wood had banks of snowdrops which brightened up the scene, and even a solitary daffodil was spotted in a garden.

The Kings Head was a welcome refuge and this 17C pub with its low ceilings and coal fire was quite busy with drinkers of the XB and XXXB being rapidly dispensed by the landlord. The XB was changed and there was time for a couple of rounds allowing the trekkers to dry out.

On then for the short walk to the dining destination of the Bull and Dog where Abbot Ale and Scrum Down (4.1%) from the GK stable were eagerly consumed. Tasty lunches were punctually served and more ale despatched.

Thanks to Ivan and Nigel for reccying the walk and Liz and Ivan for organising the meals.
